If you like peanuts, then you will love this peanut chutney (known as verkadalai chutney in Tamil). This is prepared from roasted peanuts and is a perfect side dish for idli, dosa and all varieties of upma. It is easy to make and needs very less ingredients. This chutney is so delicious that you will end up eating more idlis and dosas than usual.
Peanut chutney is a very tasty chutney prepared with roasted peanuts. It is a perfect side dish for idli, dosa, pongal. It is easy to make and needs very less ingredients
- 1/2 cup Peanuts
- 1/4 cup Grated coconut
- 4 Red chillies (or as required)
- Tamarind (a small piece)
- Salt needed
- 2 tsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Urad dal
- 1 sprig Curry leaves

Roast the peanut stirring continuously on medium heat. Once roasted, leave it to cool. (you can skip this step, if you are using roasted peanuts)

Then remove its skin to some extent.

Grind peanuts, coconut, red chillies, tamarind and salt with little water first.

Then add more water and blend it to a slightly smooth paste.

Heat oil, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add urad dal and curry leaves.

Saute it for a few seconds and pour the seasoning over the chutney.

You can adjust the consistency of the chutney by adding more or less water.

I made this chutney but it became too thick as time pass by. Please advise what is the mistake here :(
You should add enough water and grind it. The chutney should neither be thick nor too watery, so add water accordingly and grind the chutney.
