Dal is a very simple and comforting everyday dish served with hot steaming rice or roti. Being a vegetarian, dal is almost a regular feature in my home. I prepare dal with different varieties of dal and masoor dal (red lentils) is one of my favourite dish. Today let us learn to prepare masoor dal tadka following this easy recipe.
Soak dal for 15 minutes in hot water. Soaking saves a lot of time and energy.
Finely chop ginger, garlic, green chillies and onion.
Pressure cook dal with enough water for 3 whistles, adding chilli, ginger, garlic, onion, salt and turmeric powder. Once the pressure subsides, open the cooker and mash dal well. Add a cup of water and bring it to boil on medium flame.
In a pan, heat ghee, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add cumin seeds, hing, red chilli powder and curry leaves. Fry for a few seconds and pour it over the boiling dal. Remove from flame.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve piping hot with rice or chapati. Masoor dal is a fantastic side dish for chapati and plain hot steaming rice.
