Koottu curry is an important dish in Kerala Onam sadhya. I have prepared kootu curry with yam, plantain and bengal gram dal. Today let us learn how to make Onam Special Koottu curry following this easy koottu curry recipe.

Peel the skin and chop plantain and yam into medium size pieces.
Grind coconut, red chilli and cumin seeds coarsely and keep it aside.
Pressure cook both plantain and yam with turmeric powder, salt and chilli powder for 2 whistles or until soft.
Add the cooked bengal gram and jaggery to the above.
Then add the ground paste and boil until it thickens.
Now heat a tsp of coconut oil, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add red chilli, curry leaves and pour this seasoning over the koottu curry.
Fry 1/4 cup of grated coconut until it becomes golden brown and add to the kootu curry.
Serve it with rice.
