   Ingredients needed

   Grated coconut -3/4 cup
   Garlic – 2 cloves
   Green chillies – 3-4
   Salt to taste

   For the seasoning

   Oil -1 tsp
   Mustard – 1 tsp
   Urad dal – 3/4 tsp
   Curry leaves -few

Preparation

Grate coconut and keep it ready. Use freshly grated coconut for best results.

Method

First grind coconut, garlic, green chilli and salt adding very less water. Then add more water and grind the chutney a little coarse.(tips – if you add water in the beginning itself, it will take a long time to get ground)

Rinse the mixie with little water and pour that also into the chutney. The chutney should not be too thick nor too thin, so adjust water accordingly.

Heat oil, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add urad dal. When dal turns golden brown, add curry leaves and pour the seasoning over the chutney. Mix well and serve with idli, dosa, pongal, adai etc.

  • Hi padhu
Thanks for ur recipe but i have a doubt..Wont the smell of garlic be too pungent if its ground raw?
Can we saute the garlic n then grind?

    • We are adding just 2 small cloves or 1 big clove, so the chutney will have a nice garlic flavor but will not be pungent. It will be very delicious. But if you do not like the flavor of garlic, you can skip that.
