I have given you 3 South Indian Lunch Menu combinations. They are simple, wholesome and nutritious.
South Indian Vegetarian Lunch Menu – 1
In the menu below- I have prepared onion arachu vitta sambar. The best combination for onion sambar is potato curry. Since sambar has dal in it, I preferred a rasam without dal. I choose pepper rasam mainly because it aids in digestion and does not have dal in it. My traditional menu is incomplete without greens, so I prepared a simple keerai poriyal. It is a complete balanced meal consisting of carbohydrates, protein, fat, fiber, vitamins and minerals.
Onion Sambar
Potato Curry
Pepper Rasam
Keerai poriyal
Rice
Paruppu
Ghee – 1 tsp for paruppu
Curd
South Indian Vegetarian Lunch Menu – 2
This is a very Traditional Tamil Lunch. I have prepared manathakkali vathal kuzhambu.(you can use any vathal and prepare the same kuzhambu) Personally I feel the best combination for vathal kuzhambu is aviyal. Avial is a wholesome South Indian dish prepared with a variety of vegetables and curd. I have prepared arai keerai masiyal as that also goes well with vathal kuzhambu. South Indian menu is incomplete without curd. Curd, mango thokku and appalam are included in the spread.
Vathal Kuzhambu
Aviyal
Keerai masiyal
Rice
Curd
Pickle
Appalam
South Indian Vegetarian Lunch Menu – 3
This is a very simple low fat yet healthy menu. When you do not have much time to prepare elaborate lunch, but want a simple yet nutritious meal, then you can go for this combination. Rice-Rasam (any rasam)-Kootu (any kootu)-Thuvaiyal (any thuvaiyal)-Curd. Sometimes, I even skip the rasam and just prepare kootu and thogayal. I call this low fat as for all the 3 dishes given below, I have used oil only for seasoning. For a change, I have included millets (saamai) instead of rice.
Lemon Rasam
Pudalangai Kootu
Karuveppilai Thuvaiyal
Curd
Rice or millets
