Ingredients needed
Curd/Plain Yogurt – 1 1/2 cup
Gram flour/besan/kadalai mavu – 2 1/2 tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Ginger – 1 inch piece
Green chilli – 3
Sugar -1 tsp
For the seasoning
Oil or ghee – 2 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Cumin seeds/jeera – 1 tsp
Hing – a pinch
Curry leaves – a sprig
For Garnishing
Finely chopped coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
Preparation
Grind ginger and green chilli coarsely.
Method
In a bowl, mix together curd and gram flour/besan without lumps.(Curd should not be very sour for this dish). Then add water and mix well. The mixture should neither be too thick nor too thin, so add water accordingly. I added around 1 cup of water.
Add ginger green chilli paste, turmeric powder and sugar.
Heat oil/ ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, when it splutters, add hing and curry leaves.
Then reduce the heat and add the curd + besan mixture, salt needed and cook stirring on medium heat.
When the mixture starts boiling, reduce the heat and cook stirring now and then for 10-12 minutes, so that the raw smell of the besan/gram flour goes.
Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with khichdi, plain rice or pulao.
