   Sugar – 1 1/2 cup
   Water – 2 cups
   Ghee – 2 tbsp
   Cashew nuts – 12 -15

Preparation

Grease a baking tin or plate (with high sides) with ghee and keep it ready.

Method

Mix together custard powder and sugar.

Add water and mix well without lumps.

Then switch on the heat and cook on low heat stirring continuously. After few minutes, add ghee.

Once it starts to thicken, add chopped cashew nuts and cook on medium heat stirring continuously.

Cook stirring continuously until it leaves the sides of the pan (see picture below). Then pour it in the greased tray and allow it to set. Once set, cut it into squares and serve. (I have poured it in muffin cups just to make it visually appealing)

  • Hi padhu
I tried it but after cooling it turned watery and sloggy...can u plz tell me wat went wrong...

  • Indumathi - custard powder has the tendency to become thick. If you follow the recipe as it is, it is not possible to go wrong. You must give time for it to set or you can refrigerate for few minutes and then make slices. Another possibility is- you could have under cooked it. You must cook well until it leaves the sides of the pan as seen in the picture above. The halwa will follow the ladle when stirring.
