Ingredients needed
Rolled Oats – 1/2 cup
Moong Dal – 3 tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Salt needed
Onion – 1 medium size
Ginger – 1 tsp finely chopped
Green Chilli – 1 slit
Garlic – 2 cloves finely chopped
Tomato – 1 small
Carrot – 1
Beans – 5-6
For the Seasoning
Oil – 2 tsp
Ghee – 2 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Whole black pepper – 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida/Hing – a pinch
Curry leaves – a sprig
For Garnishing
Ghee – 1 tsp
Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp finely chopped
Preparation
Finely chop all the vegetables. You can use vegetables like brinjal, cauliflower, potato, bell pepper etc.
Wash and soak moong dal for 30 minutes in hot water. After 30 minutes, drain the water and keep it ready.
Method
Heat oil + ghee in a pressure cooker/pan, add cumin seeds, whole black pepper, hing and curry leaves.
When cumin seed sizzles, add finely chopped onions, ginger, garlic, green chilli and curry leaves.
Saute until onions turn transparent. Add chopped carrot, beans, tomato, soaked moong dal, turmeric powder and salt needed.
Add oats and 2 cups of water and mix well. Taste the water to check for salt. Add if needed.
Pressure cook for 3 whistles. Once the pressure subsides, open the cooker, add a tsp of ghee and mix well.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with raita, pickle or papads.
For Weight Loss – Avoid using ghee.
For Toddlers and Kids – Avoid adding chilli and start with very less quantity.
Note – If you cannot get rolled oats, you can use instant oats.

Nice recipe, but do u call it oats kichidi or oats pongal
It is khichdi as pongal does not have vegetables. But you can name it as you like hmlatha.
Do we have to pressure cook it or just cooking in the pan itself enough
No problem. You can cook covered in a pan. It will take more time than pressure cooker. That's all.
Made today... so delicious.. going to try more oat recipes... wasn't so much fond of oats before but now your recipes have encouraged me to try more oats recipes... thanks a lot
