A delicacy from Andhra Pradesh, it is sometimes served with plain upma (pesarattu with upma is know as MLA pesarattu) and ginger chutney. Today we will learn how to make pesarattu following this easy recipe.

Janardhanan, my roommate purchased a normal tava and it goes sticking all the way. Now I am accostumed to it. I think it is always better to start with the hard things and you get to learn a lot.
I will try and let you know the feedback. Now when I say I will let you know, it actually means if there is any problem I faced while preparing I will report it. 🙂
Its nice trying new recipes everyday. Now I am on a protien diet by my dietesian. They are going to make me the new suriya 🙂 kidding… it's a part of gaining power and reducing fat. But I like to try dosa as it is never harmful to health.

Hi Padhu,
Could you please let me know the number of pesarattu which can be made out of the measurement you have specified?
Vishwanath Bhagat Sharma
Dear Madam,
Thanks for the recipe. I am a working professional and find it time consuming to make one dosa at a time.
Is it possible to steam the batter and make idlis?
Do we have to change the proportions a bit.
Do let me know.
Padhu Sankar
Vishwanath -You can try steaming it like dhokla. You do not have to change the proportions. But dosa tastes best.
nayana.b.n Anil
Do we need to allow batter to ferment….
Padhu Sankar
No, not necessary to ferment.
Swati Gaur
i use 1 cup rice with 1 cup whole moong this ratio is true.
Padhu Sankar
Swati – follow the above recipe exactly. You will get very good pesarattu. I have written only 2 tsp raw rice.
Geethapriya V
Hi Padhu….
Its a nice breakfast and yesterday I have prepared it. So yummy and came well…
I have got good name from my in-laws for preparing new dishes. Also I have tried Poha…
Thanks a ton !!!!!

Can dal be soaked overnight? say 8-10 hrs?
Padhu Sankar
Not necessary. If you soak overnight, you must use the batter on that day itself as it might smell.
Giana Philip
Hi,
can I prepare & keep the batter in fridge and use the next day?
Padhu Sankar
Yes, you can refrigerate the pesarattu batter and use it the next day.
Lhage
Is it possible to make the batter a little thicker and prepare like utthapam?
Thanks!
Malathi Ulaganathan
Dear Padhu,
I tried this dosa and i get a raw smell of green mong while making the dosa.. is something wrong in my making of the batter.
Please advise
Regards
Malathi
Padhu Sankar
May be you soaked it for too long. If you cook it well, you will not get any raw smell. Even yesterday this was our dinner. It was very good. Also use good quality green gram.

Thanks padhu mam. I have tried this dosa today and it came out well.very happy that I have prepared healthy dose. Thanks alot
lakshmi mohan
Very nice receipe
Unknown
Should I grind this in grinder or grinding in mixe s enough
Padhu Sankar
Grind it in mixie – that is enough- no fermentation also required.
Unknown
Hi Padma, nice blog. While grinding the batter for pesarattu, I add a handful of fresh coriander leaves. You will get a nice flavour and green colour.
Unknown
Is it one onion or one shallot?
Padhu Sankar
It is onion. If it is shallots, I will mention it clearly as shallot or pearl onions. Instead of grinding, you can also mix finely chopped onions with the batter.
Bylanes of the soul
Hi i really need your help… my batter sticks to the tawa no matter which tawa i use normal or non stick.. can u explain why i cud b so? Plus i forgot to add rice.
Anonymous
I had been through this — it seems to happen with cold batter (if you happen to refrigerate it). Microwave the batter just enough to get it to room temperature.
Vnarayn
How many servings will this provide? Could you please add serving sizes to your recipes…
Padhu Sankar
Approximately 7-8 pesarattu for 1 cup of green gram. It depends on the size of the dosa.
Shruthilaya
I tried pesarattu today for breakfast. My husband loved it. I served it along with coconut chutney. By the way, can we send the pictures of the recipes we tried from your site to you? I am trying almost every recipe from your site. It's like my cook book! I am getting more compliments for the recipes I do. My sincere thanks to you!
Padhu Sankar
Happy to know. Thank you so much. You can send the pictures to [email protected] or you can send message/pic to padhuskitchen facebook page (link is on the right side). I will share it on facebook.
