It is a bit difficult to powder it in a mixer grinder but if you do not have a flour mill near your place, prepare it in less quantity and powder it finely and sieve it. Do not operate the mixie at a stretch. Leave a gap of 10-15 minutes in between to prevent the mixer from getting heated.

Am regular visitor to your site and your ideas has influenced my cooking a lot.
Just want to check, Can babies digest the skin of the ragi grain?
Though its time consuming, for my baby, daily i used to follow this method-clean thoroughly, soak ragi for 3-4 hours, wet grind using a little water, sieve using a tea strainer, throw away the ragi skin and use the milk obtained to make the porridge. Just wanted to share this alternative way.
Thanks..

Though initially some babies may find it bit difficult to digest, this whole/sprouted ragi porridge is healthier than preparing from filtered ragi milk.bcos the fibre and nutrient content is gud in this

Hi can I use readymade ragi flour for my five month old baby
Padhu Sankar
Check the ingredients before using it for your baby. Also consult your pediatrician as your baby is just 5 months old.

How long ragi should be cooked, my mother has given me ragi flour which she made it at home and my baby is 10 months old?
Padhu Sankar
It should be cooked well until it thickens. When you touch it with wet fingers, it should not stick to your fingers.

Thanks for sharing the recipe. I found organic ragi flour in the store near me. Should I roast and serve it first? Or should I directly mix it with water and cook on stovetop?
Padhu Sankar
You can slightly roast it and then mix it with water and cook on low heat. You can also directly mix it with water and cook on stove top.

Hi padhu
I'm using store bought ragi flour for making the porridge, but it turns out bitter. Could you please help me out?
Padhu Sankar
At times, I buy store bought ragi flour for myself, it has never been bitter. No idea why yours turned bitter. Buy good quality ragi flour from organic stores.

Hi .. my lo s 7 months nw.. I prepared sprouted ragi powder.. in that process while roasting sprouted ragi aroma was light and my mom switched off stove and then we ground it in mill to fine powder.. is it correct to roast slightly
Padhu Sankar
If you roast it well, it will not get spoiled. If there is moisture in the sprouts, you will get fungus. If you have doubts, you can store it in the refrigerator in a Ziploc bag.
Lakshmi Karthik
Hi Padhu, I tied the ragi in a cotton cloth and left it for a day and a half for sprouting but when I opened I could see a big ball of ragi all sticking together with white hairs. I want to make sure it's only the sprouts and not fungus
Padhu Sankar
Did you tie it very tightly. It will have white sprouts only. If you smell and see you will know.

Hi Padhu, I have home made sprouted ragi which I kept in sun for 3 days. But I didnot grind it, rather I stored in airtight container. I thought I will grind later when required. But now I am doubting how long can I store dried sprouted ragi before grinding. It has been 3 weeks already I kept them stored.
Your reply will be very helpful. I was planning to grind next week.
Padhu Sankar
If it has dried well, it is not a problem.
