Preparation
Chop onions and tomatoes to medium size pieces. Keep everything ready.
Method
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, hing, when mustard splutters, add ginger garlic paste and saute until the raw flavor goes.
Then add onions, green chilli and saute until onions turn light brown. Add a little salt to the onions to speed up the process.
Add tomatoes and cook until tomatoes become mushy.
Take a ladle of cooked channa, grind it to a coarse paste and add it to the gravy along with Kerala Garam masala powder. Add more water and cook on medium flame until everything gets blended well.
Heat 2 tsp of oil, saute red chillies and curry leaves and add to the gravy. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with puttu or appam or even with chapati or dosa.
The gravy has to be a little watery so that it will make a perfect pair with puttu.(coming up next)

Padhu Sankar
Nothing will happen. You can drain it, put it in the fridge and use it even the next day.

Padhu,
I Love your blog and I am a big fan of all your recipes. Looks like you are using metal spoons on non stick pans, which is not a good idea though. The non stick coating might get off when rubbed with metal and mixes with food. It might be a good idea to avoid non-stick pans and go for stainless steel or use wooden spatula on non-stick pans.
Thanks for your awesome recipes.

Thank you very much! It came out just like in Kerala hotels.

Can you please explain why did you satue the coconut to golden brown before grinding? Does it gives different flavour?

Hi Padhu, I came across another recipe for kadala curry on pulses.org that had the same text as yours. There was no mention of recipe courtesy either. I do not know if you already know about this but if you don't, I hope I've done you some favor by letting this come across you. Btw, easy recipe… Im gonna try this one right away 🙂
Padhu Sankar
Thank you for letting me know. Many copy my recipes and it is really very difficult to keep track of all that. Anyway I will check it using copyscape.
