Ingredients needed
Basmati rice – 1 cup
Onion – 3/4 cup (cut lengthwise)
Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
Green chilli -1 slit
Tomato puree – 1/2 cup
Button Mushrooms – 1 cup (200 grams)
Paneer cubes – 3/4 cup
Coriander leaves -fistful (chopped )
Mint leaves -fistful (chopped )
Thick curd – 1/4 cup
Salt to taste
Spice powder
Chilli powder – 3/4 -1 tsp (use less if store bought)
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Biryani masala powder – 1 tsp (available ready made)
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
For the seasoning
Oil/Ghee – 2 tbsp (or mix of both ghee and oil)
Cloves -2
Cinnamon – 1 inch piece
Cardamom -1
Bay leaf – 1 (optional)
For cooking the rice
Cloves 1
Cinnamon -1 inch piece
Ghee -1 tsp
Preparation
Method
Then add ginger garlic paste and saute for a few more seconds.
Now we will do the layering-
In a pan with a lid, spread half of the gravy, then half of the rice on top. (1 st pic below)
Then spread the remaining gravy. (2 nd pic)
Then spread the rest of the rice on top and close it with a lid.(3 rd pic)

Really Yumm! i put garam masala instead of biriyani masala as i make my own garam masala with pretty much the same ingriedients… and also the last 5-6 mins I put Dum with a tava. And it really turned out well.
For the first time my biriyani looks like restaurent made. Usually its tasty but the consistency eludes me…

Hi, I'm a westerner and am interested in trying out some of your recipes. I have a question about a couple of the ingredients listed above. What is "thick curd", and what are "paneer cubes"? If I go to my local "Indian grocery store" and ask for those items will they know what I'm talking about?

Thick curd is nothing but plain yogurt. Here in India the terms are used interchangeably. In India, the word curd means plain yogurt .
Paneer is Indian cottage cheese made from milk. You can make that at home also. Refer how to make paneer at home.
