Method I
1. Select good quality seeds for sprouting. Clean and wash the mung beans and soak it overnight or for 7-8 hours.(see to it that the beans are submerged in water)
2. The Next day – (Second day)
Rinse the beans well and drain the water. Now look at the seeds below. They are swollen and plump. Some have even sprouted lightly.
3.Drain the water completely.
Wet a cheese cloth or muslin cloth or a thin cotton cloth, squeeze out excess water, transfer the moong beans in it and hang it loosely to drain remaining water if any.(as shown in the picture below)
If you want longer sprouts- Rinse and drain the beans through the cloth and keep it for another 5-6 hours.Again ensure that the cloth is damp and also there should be no stagnant water in the vessel otherwise the beans will rot.
If you are not going to use it immediately, it can be kept in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
Method II
Follow Step 1 and 2 as mentioned above.
After draining the water from the Moong dhal completely, put them in a Casserole or hot pack, close it and leave it overnight undisturbed. The following morning the seeds would have sprouted.
Now you have learn’t how to sprout moong beans at home, we will see some delicious and easy salad recipes prepared with mung sprouts or green gram sprouts in our next post.
Note – Follow the same method for all bean seeds.

Thank you for this detailed explanation. I find your blog very helpful. Don't know how you manage to make these things and then actually take pictures and write about them. Its hard enough for me to find the time to cook properly. You must post one about how to cook efficiently.

Hi
I used to do this in India perfect, but eversince coming to UK what i noticed is aout 30% to 40% of the seeds(green gram) are not germinated, ie. still remain hard however long i soak them in water. I don't know it is to do with the quality of green gram, did any one out side India experienced this, what is the reason and any solution.
Thanks
